Located in the very center of Marin County, not much has changed in the agriculturally rich Nicasio Valley since it was founded in the mid-1800s. Nicasio means "the hidden one" and residents pride themselves on keeping this beautiful land hidden from today's busy lifestyle. The "town square" still consists of a General Store, Post office, Restaurant/Bar and a Church. Below are some interesting facts about the Village of Nicasio, a quaint, charming step back in time.

  • The most significant non-agricultural business within Nicasio is George LucasSkywalker Ranch, a part of Lucasfilm Ltd., where computer generated visual effects are developed.
  • Population estimates for the area range from about 600 to about 900 people.
  • According to a 2004 Forbes Magazine real estate survey, Nicasio is the 23rd most expensive zip code in the US.
  • Nicasio was home of Jerry Garcia, guitarist for the Grateful Dead, at time of his death in August 1995.
  • The town center has a post office (94946), a general store, a tiny real estate office, St. Mary’s Church, a baseball field located in the town square, Rancho Nicasio, which is a bar/restaurant/live music establishment and a Druid's Hall.
  • Van Morrison held a "secret" concert at Rancho Nicasio, located across the fields from Nicasio Meadows.
